Todays Buses No.38

Berkshire - May 2011

Re-visited after a three year gap (see TB05), this affluent area of the lower Thames Valley continues to see retrenchment  on the one hand, but innovation on the other. Newbury & District and Weavaway work jointly on local services, whilst Thames Travel, having newly joined the Go-Ahead group, has become a major operator in Bracknell. Reading, as is to be expected, continues to amaze. All new footage, in superb 16:9 widescreen.

Visits comprise Newbury, Reading, Bracknell, Maidenhead, Windsor and Slough.

East Yorkshire - June 2011

Extending our coverage further Northwards, this is the second of four programmes that we plan to issue on the fabulous Yorkshire area. The maritime communities of Hull and Goole contrast with the deeply rural north of the area, and over to the seaside resort of Bridlington. East Yorkshire and Stagecoach, two highly respected operators, provide immaculate fleets of modern vehicles. Beverley, Bridlington, Driffield, Goole, Hull, Market Weighton and Pocklington feature in this comprehensive review of operations in the area.

    Todays Buses No.40

Worcestershire - July 2011

A surprisingly high level of bus provision in a largely rural area. Local networks in several towns, and some modern vehicles with operators large and small. Bewdley, Bromsgrove, Droitwich, Evesham, Kidderminster, Malvern, Redditch, Stourport and Worcester all feature, and this programme gives a very comprehensive overview of operations in the County. A Park & Ride service in Worcester is operated by Mercedes-Benz Citaros from the County Councils own “Woosh” fleet, which also operates low frequency and demand responsive services.

A visit to Central Liverpool is bound to quicken the pulse of every true bus enthusiast. Wall to wall buses, with Queens Square Bus Station reputed to handle 5800 buses per day. All three major groups operate in the area, but independent operation has much reduced in recent years. We also visit the new Liverpool One and South Liverpool Parkway bus stations, together with the older ones at Huyton and Kirkby. Cumfybus Optare Solos seem to be nearly everywhere, and the airport services wear dedicated liveries.

    Todays Buses No.42

 Beds & Bucks - July 2011

The adjoining counties of Bedfordshire and Buckinghamshire can offer the enthusiast plenty of interest and variety. As well as the three major groups, all of which are represented, there is a buoyant independent scene throughout the area. Visiting High Wycombe, Chesham, Aylesbury, Leighton Buzzard, Milton Keynes, Bedford, Luton and Luton Airport, this new programme gives an in-depth look at current operations in the area covered.

Cambridgeshire - Sept 2011

The new Busway has attracted much publicity, not all of it favourable. At least it has prompted further investment in new buses, and a shake-up of services which should benefit a lot of people. Whether it was worth all that money remains to be seen. Peterborough has also seen many new vehicles since our last visit, and there is a very professional look to services throughout the County. A number of independents run services in this largely rural County.
