A LOOK BACK JUST A FEW YEARS TO WHEN THE EXTINCT WAS THE FAMILIAR
Apart from the well publicised “last day” events, we tend not to notice when a particular vehicle type makes it’s final run. The everyday scene in our local town gradually evolves, with new buses replacing old on an occasional basis. Add to this changes of operator when services are re-tendered, new liveries introduced to raise awareness of specific routes, and of course, the constant stream of take-overs.
At the end of a relatively short period, the scene is vastly different from what it was, 5, 10 or even 20 years ago. This series, whilst not historical in the grand order of things - you won’t find Tilling Stevens, Trolleybuses or Silver Star - does manage to take you back those few years to when Leyland Nationals, Bristol VR’s, Fleetlines, Leopards and even the odd Bedford, were the staple diet in most areas. A period that holds a special interest for many enthusiasts.
